Man charged after 'suspicious item' allegedly found in Glasgow flats

A man has been charged after a 'suspicious item' was found in a flat in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to Petershill Road in Springburn shortly after 10am on Monday, April 17, following reports of a suspicious package in a property. Residents were evacuated by police officers.

A Royal Navy explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team from Charlie Squadron, Northern Diving Group, was dispatched to the scene to remove the item.

A 50-year-old man who was arrested has now been charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today, Wednesday, April 19.

Officers are carrying out further searches around the property today. It is understood that residents who were evacuated two days ago remain in temporary housing.

"Residents are being supported by the local authority."

Glasgow City Council has been contacted for comment.
