A MAN will face court on Monday after he was charged with alleged robberies and assaults.
A 30-year-old was walking along Brown Road about 1pm on Sunday when an unknown male approached him from behind.
Police allege a 25-year-old man threatened him, demanding cash before forcing him onto the ground.
The younger man allegedly stole a power bank, glasses, headphones and a mobile phone.
It is alleged the 25-year-old then entered a Belford Street store, grabbed a 44-year-old woman and forced her to the ground.
He fled after a struggle, police said.
An hour later, it is alleged he approached a 30-year-old man sitting in a vehicle in Church Street at Mayfield.
Police allege the 30-year-old was assaulted and the younger man demanded cash and the car keys.
Officers arrived and arrested the man after a short foot pursuit. It is alleged the man spat at a male constable during the arrest.
Newcastle police took the man to Waratah police station. He was charged with aggravated robbery, common assault, aggravated assault with intent to rob (inflict actual bodily harm) and assault police officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court on Monday.
