A man has been charged after threatening his neighbours with a rifle and killing their two dogs on a rural Darwin property.
Northern Territory Police say they were called to the home in Humpty Doo around 7pm on Friday after reports a man had shown up, brandishing a gun and was threatening the two residents.
He then allegedly shot their two dogs and fled with the carcases.
The 52-year-old was arrested at his home at a nearby property and later charged with making threats to kill, assault with a firearm and property damage.
Acting Senior Sergeant Robert Overall said the man was known to the victims.
"I commend the work of all the officers involved, especially those who negotiated with the man to surrender, resulting in a safe arrest without incident," he said.
He was released on bail and will appear in Darwin Local Court on January 9.
