Man caught in News of the World sting is cleared

A film producer who was caught in a News of the World sting has been cleared of grooming a 12-year-old girl for sex over the internet. David Shaw, 43, was trapped by an reporter posing as a girl called "Mags", corresponding with her on the net for more than six months before speaking to her on the phone and agreeing to meet her in a park. During his trial at Middlesex crown court he maintained he was researching a documentary on the risks of chatrooms. But he was found guilty at a previous trial of possessing indecent photographs of Russian child prostitutes and will be sentenced on that charge next month. (Via Hackney Gazette)
