A suspected rapist who was accused of attacking a disabled teenager was burnt alive by a vigilante mob.
A murder hunt is underway after the 39-year-old man's charred remains were found by police who were called to Muhovhoya village in Limpopo, South Africa.
Local media say villagers had accused the man of raping the 17-year-old girl while she was collecting fire wood.
Police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the girl was with a group of women when the man approached them.
They managed to run away except for the girl who was then allegedly attacked.
The suspect was later traced by angry locals who had met to 'discuss the matter' before attacking him and setting him on fire, according to Sowetan Live .
Limpopo police commissioner Lt-Gen Nneke Ledwaba has called on communities to respect the law instead of taking matters into their own hands.
He warned: "Those who still participate in these barbaric acts will be dealt with harshly and without compromise."
