MADURAI: The district police booked a 23-year-old man on Thursday under sections of Pocso Act for raping and impregnating a 17-year-old girl.
The incident came to light after the girl gave birth to twins at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) a month before she was to turn 18. Police said the accused and the girl had eloped from their homes in Madurai when the girl was 16 and stayed in Tirupur and Coimbatore.
He raped and impregnated her and they returned to Madurai for the delivery.
GRH authorities informed the district child protection unit following the delivery. Police said the man raped the girl knowing that she was a minor.
