Man blasts Wickes over £16k 'kitchen nightmare'

A Wirral man who paid over £16,000 to Wickes for a new kitchen has described his experience as a 'nightmare.'

HGV Driver Chris Dodd, 32, said that he was forced too cook his meals at his mum's house after the kitchen he bought from Wickes featured an oven that 'did not work.' Mr Dodd said that the fitter supplied by Wickes took two months to complete a job that should have taken two weeks.

Mr Dodd , who lives on Oxton Road in Wallasey, said that after a 'two month nightmare' he was left with a cooker that 'did not work' and rubbish strewn across his front garden.

He said to the ECHO : "My mum lives next door so I had to cook my meals at her house. I work away during the week but at weekends I am at home." Mr Dodd said that there were several other faults with the new kitchen including exposed wires.

He said: "There were exposed wires and the oven did not work. The fitter also left bags of rubbish on the front. I found the whole matter very stressful and upsetting."

Mr Dodd said that he bought the new kitchen from Wickes in February this year. The new kitchen, which he claimed was sub-standard, was fitted in July.

Mr Dodd said that he made several complaints to his local Wickes outlet in Birkenhead, who agreed to send a second fitter out to his house. Mr Dodd said: "They agreed to send a second fitter who fixed the oven but that cost me another £1,400.

"I would not recommend Wickes to friends and family. It has been a nightmare from start to finish."

A spokesperson for Wickes said: "We are sorry to hear of the issue Mr Dodd has experienced and the inconvenience it has caused, as we always strive to deliver outstanding customer service.

"We are currently working with the installer to arrange for the work to be completed at a time suitable for the customer. Our customer relations team remains in contact with Mr Dodd to ensure this is dealt with quickly and with the best possible care."
