Man assaults police officer after shouting 'racial abuse' at homeowner

A man was arrested for allegedly using a 'racial slur' and assaulting a police officer in Halewood this morning.

Police were called to Torrington Drive, just after 8.25am, after reports of a man verbally abusing an occupant of a house on the street.

A police officer was reportedly assaulted during the incident.

As well as being arrested for a 'racially aggravated public order offence' and assault, the man was further arrested for causing criminal damage to a motor vehicle, including a police vehicle.

Merseyside Police, said: "A man was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence, criminal damage to a motor vehicle, criminal damage to a police vehicle and assault of a constable in the execution of their duty.

"Merseyside Police takes all reports of race hate incidents extremely seriously and detectives are specially trained to deal with such incidents."
