TAK: A man was arrested with a concealed Porsche, destined for Myanmar, on the back of a truck at a security checkpoint in Mae Sot district shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning.

A combined team of customs, police and local officials stopped a six-wheel truck for a search at Ban Huay Hin security checkpoint in Mae Sot around 12.10am.

They found a silver Porsche with Lampang licence plates hidden beneath bags containing clothes on the back of the truck.

Driver Sakda Sareemuk, 43, was detained on the spot. He confessed that he was delivering the luxury sedan from a garage in Mae Sot district to a man in Muang district of this northern province.

Police said the Porsche was found to be untaxed and carried fake licence plates to conceal it from authorities. It was a second-hand vehicle from Japan and destined for Myanmar.

It was smuggled into Thailand first to get fake licence plates before being smuggled out of the country via the Mae Ramat district-Ban Tak district route or Mae Sot district-Muang district route.

To date, more than 1,000 used and untaxed luxury vehicles from Japan have been seized by customs officials in this northern border province.
