Man arrested on suspicion of murder after body of pensioner discovered at Tyrone property

A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a pensioner was found at a home in Co Tyrone.

Police were called to the property shortly before 11am on Sunday.

The body of a 77-year-old woman was discovered inside and a man at the property was arrested shortly after.

Investigating police officers have appealed to the public for any information that could assist them.

Detective Inspector Claire McGarvey said: "I am appealing for anyone who believes they may have information which could assist Police with their investigation to contact detectives from the Major Investigation Team at Cookstown Police Station on 101 quoting reference 630 19/06/22.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
