Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after alleged attack at QPR vs Luton

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder as a result of an alleged attack that took place after QPR's home clash against Luton Town.

Police discovered a 52-year-old man with a severe head injury at 9.50pm on Friday, near the Uxbridge Road junction with Devonport Road in west London.

The victim, who is from Luton, was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service (LAS) paramedics while his family have been informed that he currently remains in a life-threatening condition.

The suspect remains in custody while the investigation is ongoing as police continue to urge anyone who may have either witnessed the alleged incident or any kind of disorder after the game to come forward.

Metropolitan Police Detective Constable Arrash Fagihi said: "This man sustained a serious head injury, and it is vital that we make contact with witnesses quickly.

"The area was extremely busy after the match and there will undoubtedly be many people with information that will assist police.

"I need them to get in touch as detectives work to build a complete picture of what happened on Friday night."

Police are also asking for anyone who may have mobile phone footage of any disruption as both sets of fans left the stadium.

Detective Fagihi's pleas were echoed by QPR CEO Lee Hoos, who added: "We are working proactively with the Met Police to do all we can to assist them in their efforts to understand what happened.

"We strongly condemn acts of violence in the name of football. If anyone has any information, we need you to come forward."

The incident soured what was a good night for QPR on the pitch, as they secured all three points with a 2-0 win over Luton at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

Chris Willock and Charlie Austin both got on the scoresheet to propel the club into the Championship play-off places.

The R's currently sit sixth in the table just two points behind Stoke City and Coventry who occupy the fourth and fifth spots respectively.

Luton are way off any kind of promotion charge as they find themselves in the bottom half of the table in 11th, losing three from their last four.
