Man arrested in connection with serious city centre assault that left victim with life threatening injuries

A man has been arrested in connection with a serious assault in the city centre that left a 46-year-old fighting for his life in hospital.

The incident took place on Friday night at 10:25pm at Prices Lane in Dublin 2.

The victim was rushed to St James Hospital following the shocking attack.

Lorna Brophy shared the pictures of her uncle in hospital on Facebook on Tuesday night.

She said: "He got attacked in Temple Bar last Saturday by a man for nothing.He broke his jaw, he has to have a jaw operation when he can manage breathing by himself.

"He was taken into intensive care and the whole family is heartbroken over it."

Gardai confirmed this morning they had arrested a man in relation to the incident.

A garda spokesman said: "A 32 year old man was arrested this morning, Friday 3 May 2019 in Dublin City in relation to a serious assault on Prices Lane, Dublin 2 on Friday, 26 April 2019.

"He is detained at Pearse St Garda Station under the Provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"The injured man remains in hospital with serious injuries. Investigations are continuing."
