Man arrested at H&M after hoax 'bomb threat' in city centre store

A man was arrested at H&M in the city centre after reportedly making a hoax bomb threat.

Merseyside Police were called to the store on Lord Street shortly before 3pm to reports that a man had made a " malicious claim ".

Witnesses to the incident claimed to the ECHO that there was a bomb inside the shop before staff and customers were evacuated.

Brave security staff from H&M managed to detain the man before police arrived at the scene and arrested him.

A search of the building was carried out and no threat was found.

Police confirmed that a 29-year-old from Wavertree was arrested over the incident.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm officers received a report that a man had made a malicious claim at a store in Liverpool city centre.

"A report was received shortly before 2.50pm that the man had made the hoax threat in H&M.

"He was detained by security and staff at the building evacuated the premises as a precaution.

"Officers attended and provided advice and reassurance at the scene.

"Following a search, no threat to the safety of members of the public was identified.

"A 29-year-old man from Wavertree was arrested on suspicion of communicating false information and taken to a police station to be interviewed."
