A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found with fatal head injuries in north-east Manchester.
Police and paramedics were called at about 12.45am on Sunday to an address on Culcheth Lane, Newton Heath, after it was reported that a woman had been assaulted.
They discovered the badly beaten 38-year-old woman at the scene. Paramedics tried to revive her but she died a short time later, police said.
Officers have since arrested a 48-year-old man in connection with the woman’s death. At midday on Sunday he was still in custody and being questioned by detectives. Police are appealing for witnesses.
The victim has not yet been formally identified by her next of kin, police said. A postmortem examination was due to take place on Sunday to determine the cause of death.
