Man arrested after threatening shop staff with a knife in the city centre

A man has been arrested after threatening staff at a city centre betting shop with a knife.

Police were called to Parker Street at around 2pm this afternoon after receiving a 999 call about a man threating staff at a bookies in Piccadilly Gardens.

A man matching the description was apprehended a short time later on nearby Charlotte Street, in possession of a knife.

A 36-year-old man was arrested and remains in custody for questioning.

GMP said: "At around 2pm on Monday, 14 October, police were called to reports of a man with a knife on Parker Street in Manchester City Centre.

"Officers attended a 36-year-old man was arrested on Charlotte Street on suspicion of possession of a bladed article.

"No-one was injured and enquiries are ongoing."
