Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team believe the incident was a targeted attack.

“People are more upset about the dog being killed than McDermott being .”

Detective Chief Inspector Gillian Grant, senior investigating officer, described the incident as “completely reckless” and said the suspects “had a complete disregard for the safety of the public”.

Police have been conducting house-to-house inquiries and trawling through CCTV.

The brutal two-minute assault in Cumbernauld, which left the victim with permanent scars and brain damage, was captured on CCTV.
