A man was arrested after 'kicking a police officer in the head' in Manchester city centre on Saturday night (November 5). Police were called to an incident in St Peter's Square, to reports of a male attempting to injure himself.
The male had been involved in a 'domestic assault' and after he was detained, assaulted one of the officers by kicking him to the head. He was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault, breach of court bail and assaulting an emergency worker, and taken to custody.
Greater Manchester Police said the incident on Saturday evening would have been likely to 'cause disruption to those enjoying their weekend'.

The force also said a different male was arrested for criminal damage and racially aggravated public order, after he had smashed a glass door before using racial slurs against another officer.
An update from GMP's City Centre division on Saturday read: "GMP Transport Unit have attended an incident at St Peter Square earlier this evening, which would likely have caused disruption to those enjoying their weekend. Following a report of a male attempting to injure himself by means of the team, patrols have promptly responded.
"On locating the male, he has been involved in a domestic assault after which, while being detained, has assaulted a Police officer by kicking him to the head. The male was detained and conveyed to custody where he awaits interview for a domestic assault, assault emergency worker and breach of court bail.
"Separately, a male has also been arrested for criminal damage and racially aggravated public order, where the male had smashed a large glass door and then used racial slurs against one of our officers."
