A man allegedly ran multiple red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road during an early morning police pursuit across Canberra.
Byron Thomas Hancock, 39, appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday, July 20, charged with aggravated dangerous driving.
Police allege officers were patrolling Ngunnawal about 3.40am on Sunday when they spotted the vehicle displaying registration plates that had previously been reported stolen.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly sped away, sparking a pursuit through a number of northern Canberra suburbs.
During the pursuit, police allege the driver committed a range of traffic offences, including failing to stop for police, driving through red traffic lights and travelling on the wrong side of the road.
As the pursuit continued, officers deployed tyre deflation devices, which successfully slowed the vehicle while police coordinated efforts to safely contain it.
The pursuit came to an end about 4.15am when the vehicle stopped near the intersection of Alinga Street and Northbourne Avenue in the city.
Police allege the man was subject to parole conditions at the time.
He was taken into custody, where he was also charged with failing to appear before the Sentence Administration Board.
On Monday, his bail was not applied for and it was formally refused.
