Man admits killing daughter in 2005 attack

A West Australian man has admitted unlawfully killing his daughter in an assault inflicted on her when she was a toddler.

Terrence John Bice, 40, seriously assaulted Teagan Jade Ferguson in 2005 when she was aged two.

The attack caused Teagan to sustain a traumatic brain injury and develop chronic health conditions.

She entered palliative care in 2015 and died at Perth Children's Hospital in June 2020, aged 18.

Bice was charged with murder the following year, with police saying the injuries Teagan received "directly impacted on her quality of life" and eventually led to her death.

Bice pleaded not guilty and had been due to face trial in the Supreme Court of WA.

But at a hearing on Thursday, Bice admitted responsibility by pleading guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Bice was jailed in 2005 for five years after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm over the attack.

The WA District Court heard Bice lifted Teagan up and threw her violently to the floor of their home in the northern Perth suburb of Wanneroo after being unable to stop her crying.

The toddler cracked her skull and was knocked unconscious.

Bice is due to be sentenced in August.
