Accused killer of parents at their Joyner home also charged with attempted arson

A Queensland man accused of murdering his parents and attempting to burn down their home last weekend is overwhelmed and has not indicated whether he will plead guilty, his barrister says.

Christopher Puglia is accused of bashing to death Loris and Franco Puglia, both 59, at their Joyner house, north of Brisbane, on Saturday.

Their bodies were discovered the next day.

Mr Puglia had been living at home with his parents, who were running a bed and breakfast from the property.

Police allege the 31-year-old fled to New South Wales in his father's SUV following the alleged double murder.

He was extradited back to Queensland overnight, ahead of a brief hearing in the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court, north of Brisbane, this morning.

Mr Puglia was initially charged with two counts of murder and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police said they had also now charged him with attempted arson.

The matters are scheduled to return to court on July 13.

Mr Puglia was not required to appear and was represented by barrister Brendan Beavon.

"Given the nature of the charges, he's overwhelmed," Mr Beavon said outside court.

"He hasn't indicated anything [on how he will plead]."

Initial examinations by investigators and scientific officers concluded that the cause of death was blunt-force trauma.
