Man, 75, killed in Tingley in Leeds after being knocked over by van as man as driver arrested

A 75-year-old man has died after being hit by a van in Tingley.

West Yorkshire Police says it is now investigating after the elderly man was hit by a green and grey Citroen Berlingo in Westerton Road as he crossed the street on Sunday (February 20).

The 75-year-old suffered serious injuries after being knocked down at around 4.10pm. He was rushed to hospital where he sadly died.

WYP has confirmed the man behind the wheel of the van has been arrested - he remains in police custody at the time writing.

The force is now appealing for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

Sergeant Mick Kilburn, of the Major Collision and Enquiry Team, said: "We are continuing to investigate this incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.

"Anyone who saw what happened or who saw the van beforehand or has footage of the incident is asked to contact the Major Collision and Enquiry Team on 101 referencing police log 1176 of February 20."
