Man, 50, found dead at nature reserve in 'unexplained' circumstances with 37-year-old in custody

A man has been found dead at a nature reserve in Merthyr Tydfil.

The body of a 50-year-old man was discovered by a member of the public at around midday on Sunday (September 8) as they walked along a piece of land within Taff Fechan Nature Reserve.

Police are now appealing for information following the unexplained death. The man’s next of kin has been informed and the family is being supported by specialist officers.

A 37 year-old man from Merthyr Tydfil is currently in police custody assisting police with enquiries.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Officers investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and are appealing to motorists who would have been driving along the A465 Head of the Valleys road between Cefn Coed and Dowlais Top, in the early hours of Sunday, between midnight and 2am.


"They are urged to check any available dashcam footage, as officers would like to speak to anybody who has captured, or who saw for themselves, a man walking along that road towards Dowlais in the early hours."


The death is currently being treated as unexplained and officers are waiting for results of a Home Office Post Mortem to determine what caused his death.
