Man, 36, dies after being hit by car near Thinford roundabout in County Durham

A man has died after he was hit by a car in County Durham.

Durham Constabulary confirmed that a 36-year-old pedestrian was killed in the collision on the A688 near Thinford roundabout on Monday at about 11.15pm.

It is believed a blue Volkswagen Golf car had been travelling west towards the roundabout when it has collided with the man who is thought to have been in the carriageway.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed in both directions overnight until it reopened at just after 7am on Tuesday.

Police have now launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses.

Anyone with information, particularly dashcam footage, should contact Durham Constabulary Collision Unit by calling 101 or 0191 375 2159 quoting incident reference number 621 of February 24.
