A man has been arrested and charged following the alleged rape of a teenage girl in a Glasgow park.

Police Scotland said the 16-year-old was walking near the Moongate in the north-east side of Springburn Park on Friday, June 26, when she was attacked.

On Saturday, officers said a 36-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with a serious sexual assault.

He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, July 6.

Police have thanked those who assisted with the investigation.

Detective Inspector Sharon McPeake said: “We understand this has been a concerning incident and I would take the opportunity to thank the public for their assistance with our investigation.

“We are continuing to engage with the local community and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to one of our officers.”
