A young man has been killed following a double shooting in west London hours before another gun attack 10 miles away.

The 30-year-old and a second victim, also in his 30s, were shot on Claxton Grove, Hammersmith at around 11.20pm on Wednesday.

A 28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody.

Officers had been called to a disturbance in the street close to Barons Court Underground station, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

The force added: “Upon arrival, the London Ambulance Service were treating two men for gunshot wounds.”

Both victims were taken to hospital where it was confirmed the 30-year-old died on Thursday. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The younger man was treated for minor injuries and has since been discharged from hospital.

Police said Claxton Grove will remain closed while a crime scene is in place.

Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah, from the Central West Command Unit, said: “Our deepest sympathy is with the victim’s family who are being supported by specialist officers at this time.

“This is a shocking crime to occur in any community, and we thank locals for their patience. They will see an increased police presence in the area as we conduct our enquires.”

Meanwhile, at around 1.24am on Thursday, police were called to a hospital in Hackney where a victim presented with gunshot wounds.

The 33-year-old man is recovering following emergency surgery. His injuries have not been deemed life-changing or life-threatening.

An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made at this stage.
