Man, 27, fighting for life in hospital after shooting linked to ongoing dispute between rival gangs

A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Salford believed to be linked to an escalating gang feud.

Police confirmed multiple shots were fired on Manton Close, near the border with Cheetham Hill, at around 11pm on Tuesday.

The victim, aged 27, remains in hospital.

No arrests have been made. 

The road was cordoned off while an investigation was launched following the late night shooting. 

This morning police said enquiries suggest it is linked to an 'ongoing dispute between two local crime groups'.

The dispute between the gangs has erupted over the last month, with four shootings and a vicious machete attack.

A spokesman for GMP said there is no threat to the wider public.

A spokesman for GMP said: "At around 10.55pm on Tuesday 15 September, police were called to Manton Close, Salford to reports of a firearm discharge. 

"Officers attended and enquiries established that a firearm had been discharged multiple times in the street.

"One man, aged 27 years, was taken to hospital with injuries that are believed to be life threatening.

The dispute between the gangs has erupted over the last month, with four shootings and a vicious machete attack (ASP)


"An investigation is currently underway and no arrests have been made at this time. 

"Enquiries so far have suggested that this is linked to an ongoing dispute between two local crime groups and there is no threat to the wider public. 

"A scene and road closures remain in place."
