Man, 25, fighting for his life after being struck by car whilst crossing the road in Ayrshire town

A man is fighting for his life after being struck by a car whilst crossing the road in North Ayrshire.

The 25-year-old man was mowed down by a Honda Civic in Eglinton Street, Beith in the early hours of Sunday.

Mercy crews raced to the scene around 12.10am and the pedestrian was rushed by Ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Medics have described his condition as critical.

The Honda was being driven by a 19-year-old man.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses following the horrific crash, and are asking anyone who was driving in the area to check if they have dash-cam footage.

Officers say the area was busy at the time of the crash with people leaving nearby pubs.

Sergeant Stewart Taylor said: “I believe that the area was quite busy at the time of the crash with people leaving the nearby pubs. I would ask anyone who witnessed to this crash, who has not yet spoken to police, or anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact us.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area who may have dash-cam footage.

“Information should be passed to Road Policing Officers through 101 quoting reference number 0046 of 26 February.”
