Man, 20s, dies following violent stabbing incident in Mulhuddart, west Dublin

A man has died following a violent stabbing incident in west Dublin.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Saturday evening where a man in his twenties received medical treatment, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardai say that the incident occurred at a house in Castlecurragh Heath in Mulhuddart.

It is understood that another man, also in his 20s, handed himself in at a Dublin garda station and was detained at Finglas Garda Station.

It is not believed that the incident is related to an ongoing feud in the Mulhuddart/Blanchardstown area, and may have been as a result of a domestic row.

In a statement, a garda spokesman said: "Gardaí in Blanchardstown are investigating the death of a man in his 20s following an incident at a house in Mulhuddart.

"Shortly after 6pm Gardaí attended the scene of an incident in a house at Castlecurragh Heath, Mulhuddart where a man in his 20s was discovered with apparent stab wounds.

"He was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel but was pronounced dead a short time later.

"Investigating Gardaí have since arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the incident.

"He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Finglas Garda Station.

"The body of deceased remains at the scene and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

"The assistance of the Garda Technical Bureau has been requested by investigators and an incident room has been established at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station 01-6669000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

"The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow."

The areas of Mulhuddart/Blanchardstown have been the scenes of several violent incidents in recent weeks.
