A man has been arrested in connection with the assault of a woman during an alleged attempted robbery in Cork.
The incident happened in St Coleman's Park, Fermoy, at around 6.40pm on Sunday.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports that a woman in her early 50s had been attacked.
She was out walking her dog when a man allegedly attacked and attempted to rob her.
The woman received a number of injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.
It's believed the man may have also received a number of injuries to his face and neck during the incident.
Gardai cordoned off the scene in order to carry out a technical examination and they are appealing for witnesses to the assault to come forward.
Investigators confirmed on Tuesday that a young man has since been arrested in connection with the incident.
A spokesman said: "Gardaí investigating an assault and attempted robbery incident that occurred on the evening of Sunday, 7th November, 2021, in Fermoy, County Cork, have arrested a man in his 20s.
"He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Fermoy Garda station."
