- The mayor's call follows a statement from Donald Trump, who asserted that Netanyahu "will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America."
- The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in November 2024, accusing him of war crimes, including starvation as a method of warfare, and crimes against humanity, which Netanyahu denies as "antisemitic."
- Israel's ambassador to the United Nations criticised Mamdani, accusing him of antisemitism and supporting Hamas, while Israel consistently denies allegations of genocide and dismisses UN reports as "grossly distorted."
