Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg.

An £12m deal was struck between the two clubs in the January transfer window, but now the move has officially been finalised as Sarr becomes the Blues' third signing of the summer after Dario Essugo and Liam Delap.

Sarr, 19, joins following a breakthrough season with Strasbourg as he made 28 appearances across all competitions, helping the Ligue 1 side qualify for the UEFA Conference League play-off in the process.

The defender has put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

With no suggestion of being loaned out straight away, Sarr could make his Chelsea debut in the very near future as he’s likely to be part of Enzo Maresca’s plans for the Club World Cup tournament that gets underway later this week.

Liam Rosenior, the current head coach of Strasbourg has provided a glowing assessment of Sarr to excite Chelsea supporters about this signing.

He said: “I could talk about him for hours. His nickname is Mamadou Rosenior, he's my son.

It's scary to show such performances at 19 with such calm in the face of such strong teams. He just has to stay humble and calm and he will be a top player for sure.

“His temperament, his athleticism, his ability on the ball… he’s got everything you need to be a world-class centre-half.”
