Making A Murderer 'confession' as inmate allegedly tells filmmakers he killed Teresa Halbach

An inmate in a US prison has reportedly "confessed" to the murder of a woman as seen on Netflix series Making A Murderer.

Steven Avery, 57, is currently serving a life sentence without parole for the murder of Teresa Halbach.

And a Wisconsion inmate has now allegedly confessed to killing Ms Halbach to filmmakers of upcoming series Convicting A Murderer, Newsweek reports.

Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey, who both claimed they were innocent, have spent over 10 years in prison for the murder.

Shawn Rech, director of Convicting a Murderer - due to be released in 2020 - said his team felt responsible to report the "confession".

He said: "We haven't confirmed the legitimacy of the confession, but seeing as it was given by a notable convicted murderer from Wisconsin, we feel responsible to deliver any and all possible evidence to law enforcement and legal teams.

"Having been in production for 20 months, we've uncovered an unfathomable amount of information and evidence that is leading us to the truth. Our investigation does not end here."

Mr Rech also told the newspaper the confession did not come from Avery or Dassey - who gained worldwide recognition after Making A Murderer was aired in 2016.

Ms Halbach, a photographer, disappeared after visiting Avery's property in 2005.
