Makeup can have the potential to enhance your natural features, making you look more youthful and alert.
Ageing is a natural process, but if you want to take action and try and look younger, having the right makeup and skills can help you achieve this.
With so many different brands and types of cosmetics to choose from, it can be tricky to know a good place to start. But experts say that the right type of lipstick can take years off your age, as well as enhancing your skin tone.
At the same time, the wrong kind can make wrinkles appear more prominent, dry out your lips and make you look older.
To help people avoid these lipstick mistakes, the Express reports that YouTuber and makeup artist Ali Andrea has outlined what kinds work on mature women - and what can have more of an ageing effect.
She says that certain shades and finishes of lipstick can "emphasise" how old you look around the mouth, and while it's a personal preference what kind of thing you go for, people worried about looking older should avoid shimmery shades.
Ali explained: "For me, it would be frosty lipsticks. I don't who would look good with this. In what world would anyone look good with this?"
She said that while "most people won't agree", creamy lipsticks with a subtle shine or glitter aren't flattering - particularly on mature lips.
While demonstrating her point with a berry-pink metallic product, Ali said: "For me, metallic lipsticks are just a no-no.
"My lips look like I've been smoking for 20 years. It's not the colour, it just emphasises the natural wrinkles that we have on our lips."

Although the expert recommended steering clear of anything with a shimmery finish, completing the look with a simple gloss instead is a great way to add some shine to your lips.
In terms of the ideal lip colours, nudes are always a good way to go - but you should always pair it with a liner, as you risk looking as though the "life has been taken away from your face".
Ali continued: "I believe that after a certain age if you're not applying something that has a pinch of pink or peach and a little bit of shine, I just think it looks completely dull and adds unnecessary years again."
Instead, the beauty expert suggested finding a pink-toned nude that is slightly darker than your natural lip colour, with undertones of purple, red or peach which will make your skin look healthier.
Ali said that for a light nude lip, you can use a lighter shade all over the lip and then take a darker pink lipstick over the top. One of her favourite products is Honolulu Honey by Nars, followed by a touch of a darker shade like Rose Ink in the shade Persuasive.
She recommended patting the darker colour onto the centre of your lips and a little bit on the cupid's bow for a more "alive" look.
