A MAJOR rescue operation was launched after a man fell off a cliff near a Scottish holiday park.
Several coastguard rescue teams rushed to the scene near the near the Burrowhead Holiday Village in the Isle of Whithorn in Wigtownshire.
A rescue helicopter eventually located the 24-year-old man and airlifted him to hospital.
A spokesperson for the Coastguard said: "HM Coastguard are assisting Scottish Ambulance Service with an incident involving a person who had fallen from a cliff on the Isle of Whithorn.
"Coastguard rescue teams from Ballantrae, Drummore, Kirkudbright and Stranrear have been tasked alongside an HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter.
"Lifeboats from Port William Inshore Rescue Service and Kirkudbright RNLI were also sent.
"Police Scotland are also in attendance."
A [[Police Scotland]] spokesperson added: “Around 3.45pm on Friday, 1 August, we received a report of a person having fallen from a cliff in the Isle of Whithorn area of Dumfries and Galloway.
“Emergency services attended and a 24-year-old man was air lifted to hospital.”
