Major garda search for torso of Irish teen, 17, who was murdered and dismembered

Gardaí have launched a new extensive search and dig to try and find new evidence to catch the killers of a 17-year-old teenager.

Officers using sophisticated equipment are hoping to find the missing torso of the youngster, along with the weapons used in the brutal attack.

They also suspect mobile phones used by the gang involved may also be buried there.

The search is focused on an area of wasteland between Rathmullen Park and the Hillbrook housing estates on the southside of Drogheda, Co Louth.

The youngster was murdered in a house just a couple of hundreds yards away from the area being searched by officers.

The teen, who can’t be named for legal reasons, vanished in January last year.

He was abducted stabbed in the neck in the house, and his body was dismembered.

Parts of his body were later dumped in Coolock and Drumcondra in Dublin as a warning to others.

The horrific nature of his death shocked the country and the fact someone so young was executed as part of a drugs war.

So far eight people have been arrested and questioned over his killing.

One 47-year-old man has been charged with murder and is out on bail while another has been charged with obstructing a Garda investigation and is in custody.

A Garda source said: "This is an important search, we believe a lot of the evidence is buried in this area.

“We would obviously like to find the young man’s torso which is still missing. The other parts of his body were found.

“We are looking for the weapons used in the crime, phones and evidence dumped in the clean up afterwards.

“A large number of people were involved in one way or another in this murder and we want to bring them all to justice.

“The whole sorry episode took a lot of planning  and so did the clean up afterwards.”
