Major fire in Clydebank as emergency services race to scene at former nursing home

Firefighters are battling a massive blaze in Clydebank after a former nursing home went up in flames.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Boquhanran House, near Shakespeare Avenue, at around 6.45pm on Wednesday.

Three appliances were sent to the scene as massive plumes of smoke billowed into the air with residents reporting a ‘terrible’ smell in the surrounding area.

Scottish Water have also warned locals to expect supply issues as fire crews attempt to put out the blaze.

In a statement, they said: “Customers in Clydebank have reported an interruption to normal water supplies this evening.

“This is due to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service tackling a large fire in this area on Shakespeare Avenue.

“The fire service are drawing water from hydrants on the network to tackle this fire. Whilst this is ongoing, you may experience no water, low pressure and/or discoloured water.

“Water supplies will gradually return to normal once the incident is over and water is no longer being drawn from the network.”

It is not currently known whether anyone has been injured.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they are still in attendance at the derelict building.
