IMPHAL: A major fire broke out at the Manipur police department’s crime investigation department (CID) office building in the high-security Babupara area of Imphal West in the early hours of Monday.
The origin of the fire, which broke out around 1.45 am, could not be ascertained yet. However, it is suspected that the blaze was triggered by a short circuit.
The massive fire damaged a major portion of the CID office building and engulfed a CRPF barrack in the neighbouring old secretariat complex. Various important documents and electronic gadgets kept at the CID office were damaged by the fire, official sources said.
Fire tenders from the nearby Manipur fire service headquarters as well as Thoubal district were pressed into service to douse the blaze. Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to the nearby office buildings of Old Imphal Secretariat, BSNL, Manipur Rifles and Imphal West district police station.
