Major fire breaks out in Craigton in Glasgow as crews battle large barrel blaze

Firefighters are currently battling a major fire in the Craigton area of Glasgow.

Scottish Fire and Rescue were called to reports of a blaze on Barfillan Drive at 6.26pm on Monday, May 13.

When arriving at the scene, they found multiple barrels in an industrial area which had gone up in flames.

Operations sent four appliances to tackle to fire and emergency services are still in attendance.

Pictures online showed thick plumes of black smoke billowing out above the city skyline.

ScotRail issued a travel warning on Twitter with services expected to be slightly delayed between Glasgow Central, Ardrossan Harbour, Ayr, Gourock, Largs and Wemyss Bay.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: "The SFRS were alerted at 6.26pnm Monday May 13 to a large fire in the open.

"Operations control mobilised four appliances to Barfillan Drive where firefighters were met by multiple barrels on fire. Fire crews are still on the scene working to extinguish the fire."
