Major disruption on south London trains as signalling fault closes lines at Wimbledon

Rail passengers in south London faced miserable journeys after a signalling fault caused chaos.

Lines reopened following a fault on Sunday with the signalling system at Wimbledon on Sunday morning.

But trains running through the station still faced cancellations and delays of up to 90 minutes until the disruption ended shortly before 2pm.

The disruption was affecting services between London Waterloo and Shepperton, Hampton Court, Chessington South, Leatherhead, Guildford,Portsmouth Harbour, Basingstoke, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Poole, Weymouth, Yeovil Junction and Exeter St Davids.

It was also affecting services between Wimbledon and Guildford, National Rail said.

It advised passengers to check before they travelled, as trains could continue to be delayed, altered at short notice, or cancelled while the service was restored.
