The Orlando Magic are finalizing a trade to send swingman Devyn Marble and a second-round pick in 2020 to the Los Angeles Clippers for shooting guard C.J. Wilcox and cash, a league source told the Orlando Sentinel.
Wilcox, 25, received limited playing time from the Clippers ever since the Clippers selected him 28th overall in the 2014 NBA draft.
The Magic likely want to acquire Wilcox because of his long-range shooting prowess. Wilcox sank 38.9 percent of his shots from 3-point range during his four seasons at the University of Washington. In 44 games for the Clippers over the last two seasons, Wilcox made 38.1 percent of his 3-point tries.
In 21 NBA Development League games this past season, Wilcox made 41.7 percent of his 3s.
Marble's salary for the 2016-17 season will come off the books if he's waived on or before 11:59 p.m. EDT on Friday. The Clippers could waive him and be left with the 2020 second-round pick _ a pick that first belonged to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Magic originally had planned to waive Marble Thursday, but the opportunity to acquire Wilcox arose.
As a former first-round pick, Wilcox is in the middle of his rookie-scale deal. The Magic will have a team option that can be exercised before Nov. 1 to retain him for the 2017-18 season at a salary of $2.2 million.
Once the trade is finalized, the Magic will have 13 players on their roster.
Marble, a 23-year-old former second-round pick from the University of Iowa, has potential as a defender. But he has made only 22.2 percent of his 3-point attempts as a pro.
