Magaluf and Ibiza boost for UK visitors with nightlife Covid rules relaxed

Many remaining Covid restrictions are being lifted in popular holiday hotspots of Magaluf and Ibiza with bars now allowed to open until 4am.

Clubs will also be allowed to open from October 8 but a form of Covid passport will be required for entry.

The announcement by the Balearic Islands government is a boost for UK holidaymakers heading to the region for some late-summer sunshine with Majorca and Ibiza reporting an influx of visitors from Britain.

There are still some rules with restaurant customers forced to wear face masks when not eating and drinking or social distancing is not possible, while capacity is limited to 75 per cent inside premises.

However, there is no limit on the number of customers allowed to eat together at tables.

Government Spokesperson and Tourism Minister, Iago Negueruela, said the opening of clubs was still risky and the decision will continue to be monitored closely.

Capacity will be restricted to a maximum of 75 per cent, customers must wear a face mask on the dance floor, can only drink while seated at tables and venues must close by 5am.

"The Balearic Islands are practically back to normal, with these very flexible measures, but social distancing, the use of face masks and ventilation are being maintained,” the minister told local media.

Despite the easing of rules for the nightlife sector, some of Ibiza's legendary club venues are unlikely to open for the remainder of the summer season.

However, many bars and business owners in resorts like Magaluf have welcomed the latest relaxation of regulations.

There are also moves among local businesses to extend the summer holiday season for British visitors to Majorca, with expat representatives involved in negotiations with independent hotels and airlines to continue a limited operation throughout the year.
