Madhya Pradesh: Man strangles wife to death, says she died of epilepsy attack; arrested

BHOPAL: In a pre-planned murder case reported in Koh-e-Fiza area in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal, a man allegedly strangled his wife to death on the terrace of his house and tried to portray it as if she had died after suffering an epilepsy attack.

He closed the terrace door from inside and sneaked back into the house and started searching for her with other family members.

However, when the short post-mortem report revealed that there were strangulation marks on the woman's neck and she was choked to death, police interrogated him.

The accused revealed that he never liked his wife so he planned and killed her.

Police found call details with other women in his mobile phone.

The woman was actually his elder brother's wife.

After his brother died of dengue around three years back, the family members married her with him.

Koh-e-Fiza station house officer Vijay Sisodia said that the deceased Ranu alias Rani Yadav, 23, hailed from Tyonda in Vidisha district.

He resided here at Barela village in Lalghati along with her husband Raj alias Rajkumar alias Raja Yadav, 25, and his family including parents, elder brother Prashant and his wife.

The couple have a 14-months old son.

Rani was a housewife while Raj worked as nursing staff at a private hospital.

SHO Sisodia said that Rani was found lying unconscious on the terrace of their home in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday on July 18 around 2am.

Her brother-in-law Prashant broke open the terrace door and rushed her to a private hospital from where she was referred to another private hospital in Lalghati area after primary treatment.

She died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on Tuesday, July 19 around 7pm.

The family members told the doctors that she suffered an epilepsy attack and fell unconscious on the terrace.

However, the doctors in their report mentioned about strangulation marks on her neck.

The SHO said that when police tried to send the body of the deceased for post-mortem examinations, her husband Raj resisted citing it to be a natural death case due to epilepsy.

After much effort he agreed for it.

The short post-mortem report revealed that the woman was choked to death.

When police recorded Raj and Prashant's statements, they were contradictory.

When police strictly interrogated Raj, he broke down and revealed the murder.

SHO Sisodia said that the accused revealed that the deceased Ranu was his elder brother's wife.

His brother died of Dengue around three years back after which the family members married her with him.

He didn't like her and planned to murder her.

He revealed that he strangled Ranu on the terrace and when she fell unconscious, he thought that she was dead.

He locked the terrace door from outside and sneaked back into the house after scaling the wall.

He then pretended that Ranu was missing and started searching for her with family members.

His plan failed when the family members found that she was alive and rushed her to hospital after which police were informed.

SHO Sisodia said that Raj was in contact with other women and had long conversations with them over phone on the day when the incident took place.

Police arrested him on charges of murder and produced him before the court.

Further investigations were on in the case.
