BHOPAL: PCC chief Kamal Nath on Thursday alleged that the government did not allow discussions on issues such as floods, unemployment, inflation and farmers’ distress in the monsoon session of the state assembly. Speaking to the media in Chhindwara, the former CM said his party MLAs submitted a proposal for an adjournment motion and 20 call attention motions on the second day of the monsoon session. But the government did not allow them and adjourned the session sine die.
“Running the assembly is the responsibility of the government and is done after discussions with the Opposition,” said Nath, who is also a former Union minister for parliamentary affairs. “But this time, the intention was known from before when the session was kept for just four days,” he said.
“The state government’s intention was clear from the very beginning. They did not want to discuss important issues concerning the public. The ruling party indulges in politics of suppression and oppression so that the people can be misguided,” Nath added.
The state Congress president said that the assembly session ran for just three hours during the two days.
“On the first day, I brought up the issue of why the International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples is not being observed? On the second day, we submitted a proposal for adjournment motion and 20 subjects for call attention motion. But the government did not accept our proposals,” Nath said.
“They are not ready to hold discussions on OBC reservation, unemployment, farmers’ issues or on the floods in the Gwalior-Chambal region. This is a government that has shut its eyes and ears,” Nath added.
