Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan urges discoms to ensure quality power

BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday said that the task of collection of electricity bills should be entrusted to the local youths.

“Initially, groups of local youths should be entrusted with the responsibility of collecting electricity bills in some districts. The responsibility can be assigned transformerwise. Arrangements can be made to give a fixed amount to youth groups as an incentive on acquired bills”, Chouhan said.

Chouhan was speaking at a review meeting of the energy department at his official residence here in the state capital. Energy minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar, chief secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, principal secretary (energy) Sanjay Dubey and other l officers were also present at the meeting.

Chouhan further said that power companies should provide quality service and make full recovery. “Incidents such as electricity theft and wire theft should be monitored and checked and those found guilty should be punished. If immediate action is not taken against those who do such activities, the incidents of theft will rise”, he added.

Chouhan said that proper power supply, maintenance and replacement of burnt transformers should be a priority and employees who are not taking their job seriously will not be spared. He said that providing non-stop electricity to houses and farms is his top priority.

Chouhan also directed officials to work for improvement in the power supply situation in the eastern region of the state.
