SHEOPUR: Two adult leopards, including one suspected to have strayed from Ranthambore National Park in neighbouring Rajasthan, were found dead in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district, forest officials said on Monday.
One of the carcasses was found floating in the Chambal river on Sunday, while another was spotted in Vijaypur range of the district, they said.
The carcass found Vijaypur was discovered in Budhera beat on Sunday evening, sub-divisional (forest) of ficer D N Pandey said. The leopard had probably died two-three days back and a sharp wooden piece was found pierced in its body.
No signs of poaching on leopard carcass
The exact cause of the death will be known after an autopsy on Monday, he said.
Villagers had informed forest officials about another carcass floating in Chambal river near Unchakheda Ghat, range officer Ajay Vajpayee said.
The leopard is suspected to have strayed from Ranthambore, around 25km from the spot, and apparently died five days ago, the official said. There were no signs of poaching as the carcass did not have any injury marks and all the body parts were intact, he added.
