'Made the tough decision...': KKR's Jason Roy opts out of IPL 2024 due to family commitments

NEW DELHI: England batter Jason Roy has announced his decision to withdraw from the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, citing the need to reunite with his family after being away since January.

In a statement addressed to his franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the 33-year-old right-handed batsman described the choice as a "tough decision" and extended his best wishes to the team for the upcoming tournament.

"After much consideration, I have made the tough decision to miss this year's IPL. Having been away since the start of January, I need to get back to my family and have a refresh before a very busy year ahead. I will be supporting my friends and teammates at KKR throughout the tournament and wish them the best of luck," said Jason.

KKR, acknowledging Roy's decision, expressed understanding and support, stating, "You'll be missed Jason. But we understand."

In light of Roy's absence, KKR announced Phil Salt as his replacement for the forthcoming IPL season. With a blend of star overseas players and a strong Indian core, including the likes of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and skipper Shreyas Iyer, KKR aims to perform well in IPL 2024 after finishing seventh in the previous season.
