Mabel's cute shout out to her very famous mum in BRITs acceptance speech

Singer Mabel had the huge job of opening this year's BRITs, and her impressive performance of her hit track Don't Call Me Up certainly didn't disappoint.

And her opening number wasn't the 23-year-old's only trip onto the stage, and she was back up to collect her award for British Female Solo Artist later in the evening.

But what caught fans attention was Mabel's adorable shout-out to her mum in her acceptance speech.

She told the crowd it was exactly 30 years to the day, that her mum was also on stage collecting some awards of her own.

The cute message left a lot of fans scratching their heads about who Mabel's mum is.

The incredible woman in question is Neneh Cherry, the Swedish singer, who took home awards for both best international breakthrough and best international solo artist seven years before Mabel was born.

She released numerous albums as a solo artist, such as 1989s Raw Like Sushi, 1992s Homebrew and her most recent album, Broken Politics, in 2018.

But as well as a talented singer songwriter, Neneh also shone as a rapper, broadcaster and DJ, after rising to fame in the 1980s.

And now 30 years on, Neneh was seen supporting her daughter in the crowd and walking the red carpet with her.

During her speech, Mabel said: "Wow, this is so wild.

"It’s been a crazy journey and I just want to say that there are so many amazing women in this category so it’s really an honour to have this.

"I had the honour today of walking the red carpet with my amazing mum. It's 30 years since she won two of these… so it's a very special night."

Mabel was nominated for the award alongside Charli XCX, Mahalia, FKA twigs and Freya Ridings.
