M&S customers fuming after Percy Pigs recipe is changed to be suitable for vegetarians

They have become one of the nation's favourite supermarket sweet treats but fans of Marks & Spencer's famous Percy Pig sweets have been left raging by a change in their recipe which has left some disgruntled shoppers saying they "taste like washing up liquid."

Percy Pigs have been on the shelves at M&S , as well as earning a place in the nation's hearts since 1992.

Some 250,000 people follow an appreciation page on Facebook and many of them have hit out at M&S after they changed Percy's ingredients to make the sweets gelatine free and therefore suitable for vegetarians.

The change in recipe has sparked a fierce debate on Twitter, with many people calling out those against it for caring so deeply about sweets and being so anti-vegertarian.

Someone posted "People genuinely outraged over Percy f****** Pigs need to go for a walk and have a good think about where their life's headed," and another reacting "It’s a shame people are more upset about Percy Pigs than real pigs."

Even Piers Morgan tears into vegetarians after M&S Percy Pig change and is too less than impressed.

Ranting on Wednesday's Good Morning Britain he raged "Vegans, vegetarians - go and get your own sweets. Seriously, go and get sweets that aren't called Percy Pig. Go and get one's called kale nicies.

"Leave our pig sweets alone, people."

However, Piers even admitted he hadn't actually tried the original Percy Pigs, but added "No, but I'm about to eat them all the time. The old fashioned, gelatine ones."
