Lyric Hammersmith Theatre's A Doll's House to stream online for free

Tanika Gupta’s critically-acclaimed production of A Doll’s House, which ran at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre last year, will be streamed online for free.

Gupta’s version of Ibsen’s play, which transposes the action to 1870s Calcutta, will be available for one day only on the theatre’s YouTube channel.

Artistic director Rachel O’Riordan helms the production, with Anjana Vasan in the lead role of Niru, who was shortlisted for best actress at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for the performance.

The Standard’s review of A Doll’s House said: “O’Riordan and Gupta’s innovative re-working of one of theatre’s most performed plays feels as thrilling as it is politically astute.”

O’Riordan said she is “delighted” that people will have another chance to see the first production she programmed and directed as boss of the Lyric.

“It embodies everything I want the Lyric to be for our audience – world-class theatre, a reimagined classic text, showcasing exceptional talent and celebrating our 125-year-old theatre. I’m delighted that we’re able to share this recording for free so that more people can enjoy this production within our beautiful theatre.”

The cast also includes Elliot Cowan as her husband, as well as Arun Ghosh, Arinder Sadhra, Colin Tierney, Tripti Tripuraneni and Assad Zaman.

While the screening is free, the theatre asks that those who can donate to the Lyric Recovery Fund to support the theatre during this period of turmoil.

A Doll’s House will be available to watch from 2:30pm on Wednesday May 20, youtube.com
