Thug dragged his mum out of bed and kicked her teeth out

A thug pulled his mum out of bed by her hair before dragging her downstairs and kicking her front teeth out.

Kane Harrison, 27, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to assaulting his mum, Holly Jane Deacon, at her home in Walton in August this year. The court heard that Harrison, who appeared in court today via video link, arrived at the property and started drunkenly shouting up to his mum who was in bed.

Prosecutor Jamie Baxter told the court that Harrison then went upstairs to wake her before pulling her by the hair and then dragging her downstairs. He then went on to kick her forcefully in the face and also stamped on her neck.

When police arrived at the house they found blood stains on the wall and on the floor. The force of the kick to the face meant Ms Deacon lost two teeth in the attack, saying afterward “she thought she was going to die”, the court heard today, Wednesday 17 October.

Harrison was in possession of his mum's phone at the time of the attack and neighbours alerted police when they heard the assault taking place. Harrison blamed his alcohol dependence for the assault but initially denied the allegation, alleging that his mum had fallen over or was making things up.

Defending, Mr Julian Nutter told the court that Harrison had “no other offences of violence” and that the attack was a result of a “row with his mother”. Having been in custody since the night of the incident in August, Mr Nutter added that his client had experienced “the shock of the clang of the prison gates for the first time” and that he had "shown remorse" and is “desperate to deal with" his alcohol problems.

In a letter written read out by Judge David Aubrey KC, Harrison’s mum asked for the court to “to be lenient” on her son. Elsewhere in the letter to the court she stated that loved him "with all her heart" and that she "feels she is as much to blame" for the attack.

Hearing the case, Jude Aubrey KC, however said he “cannot accept and does not accept that she was the one to blame.” He added that Harrison carried out a “sustained attack” on his mum and the severity of which had to be balanced alongside the plea in her letter - along with other mitigation such as Harrison suffering from anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress disorder.

Following the guilty plea, noting that there was no previous violence on his record, Judge Aubrey KC sentenced Harrison to 15 months in prison.
